Alicante Spain

This time last year I was on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Allure of the Seas. On October 28th we made portcall in Alicante, Spain.

Alicante is a port city on Spain’s southeastern Costa Blanca, and the capital of the Alicante province. Its old town, Barrio de la Santa Cruz, has narrow streets, colored houses and a nightlife scene. From here, an elevator or a steep climb leads to medieval Castillo de Santa Bárbara, set on a hilltop with sweeping views of the Mediterranean coast.
The last time I was in Alicante was in 1982 and didn’t get to see much then.

So I was very excited to be in Alicante. I was one of the first to get off the ship. I caught a little shuttle thing up to the end of the very long pier where there were a number of taxi operators willing to take your money. I walked past all of them and about a block further saw a younger looking taxi driver. He spoke pretty good English! I showed him a series of pictures of places I wanted to go and photograph and asked him if he could take me to each of those and if so, what would it cost? He told me he would be glad to take me to those places and told me he would charge me €40 I handed him €45 and said thank you very much. He took me to each place and you can see some of the pictures below.

Safely back onboard the ship, ready for the next adventure!
